Can you believe this is the last full week of school for the year?! It will be a busy week with finals, but we know our students will do well. Students will also begin to turn in their Chromebooks this week. Please ensure they have their Chromebook, stylus, power cords, and bag to turn in on Tuesday (middle school) and Wednesday (high school). Have a wonderful week!
- All Other Finals: For all other grades, final exams will be approaching soon. Please check the attached Finals Schedule.
- Chromebook Collection: Chromebooks and all accessories will be collected on Thursday for all seniors. All other Chromebooks will be collected June 2-3.
Also, I want to remind you that if you are PCSing prior to the end of the school year, please contact Mr. Brian Atkins-Hash to complete early withdrawal paperwork. This must be done at least two weeks in advance to ensure all necessary paperwork and records are available to you at the time of departure. If you have any questions, please message him as soon as possible at brian.atkinshash@dodea.edu.
We are now in the last few weeks of the school year! We know many of our Dragon families are beginning to prepare for their next assignments. To ensure a smooth transition for your student, please keep the following withdrawal requirements in mind:
- Accelerated Withdrawal Forms: If you are PCSing on orders before the official end of the school year, you must complete an Accelerated Withdrawal Form through the front office. Please message Mr. Atkins-Hash for additional information.
- Orders Required: Please note that accelerated withdrawals are strictly for families with official military orders. Leaving early for vacation is not a valid reason for this process.

We ask that you notify us and submit your forms as soon as possible. Early notification is essential to ensure your student can properly close out their requirements and gives our teachers the necessary time to finalize grades and records before your departure.

🥐AAFES School Breakfast Team is trialing breakfast in the AMHS library. The library will open at 0755 for students wishing to get school breakfast, which will be served until 0815. Students may also still eat breakfast in the cafeteria.
➡️Please note that only students eating school breakfast will be allowed to enter the library at 0755. The library will open at 0800 for students.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
📵Cell Phone Policy: "Off and Away"
To ensure our classrooms remain a space for active learning and positive social interaction, we require all students to have their cell phones switched off and put away in their bookbags or locker during the school day.
- Middle School Students: Phones must remain away at all times, including during lunch.
- High School Students: May use their phones during their lunch period only. Outside of lunch, the "off and away" rule applies.
🎒Forgot Something? We’ve Got You Covered
If your student forgets an item, such as their lunch, a project, or specific school materials, please remind them that they do not need their personal phone to solve the problem. They should simply notify their teacher or come to the front office. We will then contact you directly.
👩🏼⚕️Student Wellness and Health Protocols
If a student is feeling unwell, they must report directly to the school nurse to be assessed. Students should not use their personal phones to text home to be picked up.
- We have specific medical and attendance protocols that must be followed when a student needs to go home sick.
- Nurse Boyett will contact you if your child should be excused for the day.

📢Attendance reminders:
- If your student is absent, please report it by emailing attendance.alcohs@dodea.edu .
- Students arriving after 0830, must be signed in at the front office by a parent or guardian, regardless of grade level. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us account for all students.
- If your student(s) will be missing 3 or more days of school, they must complete an extended absence form. This can be picked up in the front office. Parents are to complete the top section and it is then given to administration for approval. Students then take the form to their teachers to receive the assignments they are missing while they are out. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Atkins-Hash at brian.atkinshash@dodea.edu .

Be Involved at AMHS
Our Dragons soar higher when families and community partners join us on the journey. Whether through volunteering, PTO, or SAC, every contribution strengthens our school and enriches the student experience.
School Advisory Committee (SAC)
The SAC is composed of an equal number of locally elected parents and full-time professional school employees and may also include a senior high school student enrolled in the school. The SAC advises the school principal on all local school-related matters, including educational programs, resources, services, and policies. Issues unresolved at the school level may be elevated to the DAC.
- Meetings are held at 4:00 pm in room 210.

Children under 16 and students under 18 are able to receive FREE NHS eye tests and optical vouchers for corrective lenses.

How Often Should Children Have a Comprehensive Eye Exam?
According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), children should have a comprehensive eye exam by an optometrist:
- At 6 months
- At age 3
- Before starting school (around age 5–6)
- Every 1–2 years thereafter, or annually if vision correction is needed.
Regular exams help detect conditions like amblyopia, myopia, and other vision issues early—critical for learning and development.

Know Your Kid's Buzz: Caffeine Facts for Ages 11–18
Caffeine & Teens: Safe Limits and Smarter Choices
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that teens ages 12–18 limit caffeine to under 100 mg per day and avoid energy drinks entirely because they often contain excessive caffeine and other stimulants that can harm sleep, heart health, and mood.
Instead of energy drinks, consider lower-caffeine alternatives like green tea or black tea, which provide hydration and antioxidants without the high stimulant load. Research suggests green tea catechins may support heart health and modestly improve cholesterol levels.

School Procedures
DoWEA School Dress Code
Students MUST wear:
- Tops with sleeves (sleeveless tops/dresses are permitted for school sponsored formal events such as prom)
- Solid clothing (not transparent or translucent) that fully covers the top and bottom from armpit to mid-thigh
- Shoes (shoes must be safe for the school environment)
- Bedroom slippers shall not be worn, except for school activities approved by the principal
- Open toe shoes with a strap across the heel are allowed
Students CANNOT wear clothing with:
- Language or images promoting violence
- Language or images that depict, promote, or advocate the illegal use or sale of drugs, alcohol or tobacco products; violent conduct; curse words; pornography; that contain threats or expressions which are violent, discriminatory, lewd or obscene; or that advocate or promote any other illegal item or activity or the use of same
- Derogatory speech and/or imagery that targets groups based on race/color, ethnicity/national origin, sex, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or any other characteristic protected by law.
- Headgear that obscures the face (except as a religious observance or health purpose); clothing items with hoods attached can be worn but must not cover the head
* Teachers/courses can require certain attire as part of the curriculum (for example: physical education, culinary) that may include specific dress
* DoWEA issued athletic uniforms and athletic practice attire outside of the DoWEA school dress code is permitted when worn by participants during athletic practices and sports events

Accelerated Withdrawal
The Principal may authorize an accelerated withdrawal of a student who must withdraw from school 20 or less instructional days prior to the end of a semester, in accordance with Section 3.1.d, of DoDEA Administrative Instruction 1367.01, “High School Graduation Requirements and Policy,” [TBD]. Accelerated withdrawal will only be considered if the parent/sponsor presents PCS orders. The parent or sponsor must present verification of the date required for the student to depart from the school (e.g., PCS orders). All of the conditions of an accelerated study program outlined by the student’s teachers must be met prior to withdrawal in order for grades to be assigned and credit to be granted. Students who withdraw prior to the 20-day limitation of the accelerated withdrawal policy will receive “withdrawal” grades rather than final grades. In this case, the sponsor/parent should notify the school two weeks prior to the date of withdrawal.
DoW School Liaison Program
School Liaisons serve as the primary point of contact for PK-12th grade school-related matters. The School Liaison Program offers an array of services and resources to support students, parents, installation leadership, schools and the surrounding community. They inform parents about local schools, graduation requirements, afterschool programs, homeschooling and much more. By working together with these stakeholders, the School Liaison Program builds a support network to provide the best possible education experience for military-connected children and youth worldwide.
The School Liaisons Program goals are to:
- Identify barriers to academic success and develop solutions
- Promote parental involvement and educate local communities and schools regarding the needs of military children
- Develop and coordinate partnerships in education
- Provide students, parents, and school personnel with the tools they need to overcome obstacles to education that stem from the military lifestyle
The School Liaison:
- Serves as the primary point of contact for school-related matters
- Represents, informs, and assists Command
- Assists military families with educational issues
- Coordinates with local school systems
- Forges partnerships between the military, community and schools
School Liaisons are located at each installation to provide information as well as build partnerships with the civilian and military community to help address common education challenges of military families. School Liaisons are also an initial contact for participation in the Youth Sponsorship Program which builds resilience in youth and eases transition. School Liaison support is free of charge and open to all Department of War identification card holders, educators who serve military students and community partners involved with PK-12 education.
