Alconbury Middle High School Winter Concert Ushers in the Holiday Season
ALCONBURY, England — The Winter Concert at Alconbury Middle High School marked the start of the holiday season for the Dragon community, continuing a long-standing tradition that brings students, families and neighbors together through music. This year’s concert was the first under the direction of Mr. Phillip Jennings, who carried the tradition forward with energy, creativity and a personal touch.
The day began with a special performance for the Little Dragons at Alconbury Elementary School, an annual outreach that allows middle and high school musicians to share their excitement for music while inspiring younger students. Later that evening, the AMHS gym transformed into a concert hall as the community gathered for the main performance.
The program featured a blend of holiday classics and contemporary selections performed by the band and choir. Students dressed in formal black attire accented with festive details such as Santa hats and reindeer antlers, adding a lighthearted holiday flair. Performances ranged from jazz arrangements to full band and choral pieces, showcasing the depth, growth and versatility of the school’s music program. A standout moment included a middle school band ensemble performance of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, arranged by Jennings, adding a meaningful and personal element to the evening.
Before the concert, the Senior Class of 2026 hosted a fundraiser offering hot cocoa and chili. Proceeds will support graduation activities in Ely, giving attendees an opportunity to support students beyond the stage.
“Alconbury MHS’s Winter Concert brings together band and choir ensembles of all levels for a powerful celebration of music and growth,” Jennings said.
As the final notes echoed through the gym and applause filled the room, the evening reflected more than musical achievement. The Winter Concert highlighted the strong sense of community at Alconbury MHS—where tradition, talent and Dragon pride come together to make the season, and the school, truly special.
